Math Circle News
In 2004 the Kaplans gave a talk on The Math Circle at The Perimeter Institute for Physics, in Waterloo, Ontario, to a very receptive audience of 500. They gave a seminar and demonstration of The Math Circle's approach at the Institute for Advanced Studies' Park City Math Institute in Utah, in July. In December they did the same at a conference on math circles at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, in Berkeley, California. During the year they worked with teachers in the Taunton, Ma. public school system, gave demonstrations at The Peabody School in Cambridge, and throughout the summer in Great Britain (from Bath to Edinburgh).
In 2005 the Kaplans did the same for the Melrose, MA middle school system. They were invited to spend a day at the Heschel Academy in New York City, in March. An article on The Math Circle appeared in the March/April issue of Teacher Magazine.
Also in 2005 The Kaplans' book on The Math Circle (Out of the Labyrinth: Mathematics Set Free) was published by Oxford University Press. On March 23, 2006 the book Chances Are: Adventures in Probability by Ellen and Michael Kaplan was released by Penguin Publishing.
On December 13, 2006, Out of the Labyrinth: Setting Mathematics Free by Robert and Ellen Kaplan was released by Oxford University Press.
